International Students Put Trefort Garden on the Budapest100 Map

As in previous years, Atelier Department of Interdisciplinary History once again participated in the Budapest100 cultural festival this year. In 2025, the event was organized around the theme of urban parks and gardens in the capital. This time, international students prepared for the heritage festival and the showcasing of the Trefort Garden campus within the framework of Veronika Eszik’s project seminar. During the course, they developed a script for an interactive walking tour based on QR codes placed at seven different locations in the garden, and by the end of the semester, they were able to implement the concept plan. Participants learned fascinating new facts at each station of the walk, bringing them closer to the history of the garden and the university.

In addition, on the first day of the festival, May 24, two art workshops were held—one in the morning and one in the afternoon—focusing on the work of Vera Csapody (1890–1985). Vera Csapody studied mathematics and physics at ELTE’s Trefort Garden campus and later became a renowned botanical illustrator and plant artist. We used some of her drawings—depicting plants also found in the garden—as visual inspiration, allowing visitors to create their own sketches as souvenirs of Trefort Garden and its striking details.

The photos were taken by João Batista Senda, a Mozambican student of the seminar group.
